It’s simple.

Pairing an ultra 80’s black and white checkered jacket, with uh, pretty much anything, gives your outfit an unexpected flair. It’s chic. The jacket, can bring down the tone, of you favorite super vintage dress. Pairing checkered with neon, is an interesting dichotomy on a very traditional ideal.

Alexander Wang:

Turning One, Aint so easy 

Based out of New York, deigners Alexander Wang, started his journey, just a short blink ago. Launching in 2004, with signiture knits, Wang has established himself in the industry, as an innovator.

Launching in Spring 2007 his first ready-to-wear collection, yep thats last freakin year, he is infomous for his soft jesry dresses and smooth silouettes. His super trendy crop jackets and super femme fabrics trickled down the runway this Spring 2008.

The Holy Matrimony between Neutral and Neon :

Nanette Lepore to be exact. Fashion Week ‘08 infused 80’s inspired neons, yeah remember them, with sophiscicated nuetreals , as  the pallet for many collections. I mean lets face it, no one wants to walk around looking like a Hue/Saturation layer mask.

Spring 2008:

Matthew Williamson and Anna Sui

got me at hello 

Although born and raised in the UK, fashion designer Matthew Williamson, uses his inspiration from his time in India and infuses them in his designs. Rather it be heavy, bulky embroidery on a soft satin super femme baby doll dress, he manages to “make it work”. His masculine sport-coats paired with a super chic tank and stiletto moccasins, prance down the runway to “Chelsea Rodgers” performed by the artist formally known as Prince.

Born to Chinese Immigrants, Anna Sui has managed to regurgitate 509 boutiques in 26 countries. Her look includes super short baby doll dresses in ultra sheer slinky textiles.

I’m still waiting for the gold grills to grace the pages of Vogue. Circa pimps and hustlers 1980, R&B artsists like Kelis, have managed to couture, these gold unmentionables. The ultra sexy designs of Baby Phat and street cred of platinum grillz, graced Bryant Park, at this years  Fashion Week.

Queen of Hearts

The super chic bob is no longer that of the past. I can remember the Queen of hearts in an ordinary deck of cards, or the eccentric Betty Rubble from the Flinstones with this cut. No-ser-ry bob, is this cut for the introverted. The cut is blunt, bold and daring, and honey if you’re ready for the limelight, hide under an umbrella-ella-ella-ella- eh.

I must say that hip hop has come a long way. I remember the very unattractive “dookey” chains, and baggy jeans wearing, laides of hip-hop from the eighties.

 The infamous chant “ella-ella-ella-eh-eh-eh” has become synonymous with Rhianna. Lets face it..you’ve have that song in you head for days now, the only way you got it out is when you heard the new Soulja Boy song. ::please don’t dance::

Amongst the cluttered shelves of Rasputin music store, Rhianna’s melodic, Caribbean ambiance , appears. Her China doll bangs and fashionista overhaul, changed her from “fresh off the boat” to “fresh ta death”.

Rhianna has reinvented herself as a fashion icon. She is what to hip hop, what Carrie Bradshaw, is to Sex and the City. She sets trends with her over the top ballet tu-tu, and paired with eighties inspired, bamboo earrings. With Rhianna ghetto fabulous and pret-a-porter, live harmoniously.

Kudos, Rhianna, for showing that we too can be super chic!
